Happiness
Director: Steve Cutts
Production Company: NA
Type: Animated Short film
Why should ya watch it: My favourite winner this year! Super cute, very funny and an oddly sobering look into the modern world through the lives of rats. Check it out!

PSA In Real Life
Director: Win Bates
Producton Company: NA
Type: Content
Why should ya watch it: I found this video pretty confronting and uncomfortable to watch. I wasn’t really sure what I was watching until the end frame. It made me sad, so it did a good job at getting its point across!

Dream Makers by Honda
Directors: James Allen and Mike Skrgatic
Production Company:Time Based Arts
Type: TVC
Why should ya watch it: It’s an ad that emphasises the craft of pre-production, production and post-production as its own style of filmmaking. It highlights what we go through to get to a finished product… as the finished product. Visually it’s like nothing I’ve seen before, which is pretty cool. And it looks super expensive!!!!

Roman by Mashrou’ Leila
Director: Jessy Moussallem
Production Company: Caviar
Type: Music Video
Why should ya watch it: To me, this is an example of brave filmmaking. Mashrou’ Leila is a male Lebanese music group who advocate women’s issues and rights through their music. This in itself is pretty astounding considering the current social context, but additionally the director is an emerging female director from Beirut, who understands better than anyone the struggles of women in this part of the world. The two together are a power combo for authentic and meaningful filmmaking! I’m Not Racist by Joyner Lucas
Director: Ben Proulx and Joyner Lucas
Production Company: Project 2 Studios
Type: Music Video/Content
Why should ya watch it: This video is the result of putting two polar opposites in one room and forcing them to talk to each other. It’s a social commentary on the current racial attitudes in the US communicated through rap. Wasn’t stoked about the ending (it felt a bit forced and unrealistic to me), but definitely worth a squizz.
